Tattoo

After reading a few tattoo magazines i knew i wanted to try out something similar to the images i saw. I put a post up on Facebook to ask for anyone to help out with this that had some good tattoo coverage, after going through many enquiries i found 2 girls that were perfect for the job.
Carol and Carah came to my new studio last week and here is a sample of just some of the images we got.

Impreza idol

Ewan Stark got in contact with me through Facebook as he was wanting some picture of his beloved Subaru Impreza (aka Lucy) for Impreza idol
The pictures for this had to be pretty basic but we had some fun afterwards and got some shots of Lucy we were both really happy with.
Below is one of my personal favourites. More pictures will be added soon and i will be keeping my fingers crossed for Ewan.

New studio

Last month i received keys to my very own space that i will be turning into a studio. For the past 2 years i have been doing studio shoots using a spare room at my home, as baby number 2 is due any day now our house will become a little more hectic. Finding a suitable space for me to continue and also grow my photography was a must and after a lot of looking i found a place.
There is decorating to be done in every room, new paint, flooring etc but i love a challenge and Kristeen my amazing wife has been helping too and putting a womans touch to some things despite being 9 months pregnant.
Fingers crossed it should all be ready by the middle of October and will be holding an open day.

Photography Training

I have had a busy last few weeks with keeping my photography up to date, first off was a training day with John Denton at Alan and Morag's studio in Stirling. The studio was packed full of delegates and we all came away from the day buzzing with new ideas.
Pictures from the day can be seen on John's blog
A few weeks later it was off to the Landmark hotel in Dundee for a chance to meet multi award winning photographer Damian McGillicuddy. The day was part of the swpp's training days which they do all over the country, I was really excited about this day as I've always wanted to meet Damian but he is so busy and in demand it's hard to get on any of his training programmes.
The day was jam packed with lots of helpful information and we also got a chance to take shots of the lovely Becky who is so down to earth and as i later found out quite close to me so will be working with her again in the future.
Overall the last few weeks have been fun for me and i am excited to put all of my new knowledge into my photography and keep growing in the future.
Below is a few images of Becky

3 women and a photographer

A few weeks ago Leann returned to my studio for yet another shoot, she wanted something really sexy so decided to go for a boudoir style shoot.
We got plenty of great shots from the day and both of us were happy with the days outcome.
Leann must have inspired other girls to do the same as i had Caroline and Hayley looking for something similar.
Caroline was very nervous the night before and also when she arrived at my studio,it wasn't long however until she began to relax which helped get images she was more than happy with.
Hayley too was nervous even though she had done something similar before but as everyone does she relaxed and has plenty of images to be proud of.

Giving up a few things

I have been thinking long and hard about my photography this year and where i would like it to go in 2012. Being a member of the society's i would really like to gain my Licentiate award, to do this i have to submit a panel of 20 images in 1 given area of photography. This got me thinking about everything i offer to my customers and i now feel i am offering too much and not giving myself an opportunity to succeed in 1 area.
I am therefor giving up my bump and baby shoots and also pet photography, i just cannot handle the workload and if i am to gain the qualifications i want then something has to give.
Another reason is due to what the clients want. Looking around my home the other day i noticed the huge amount of pictures my wife has hung up of our beautiful baby boy and also from our wedding day. There is so many different display products and also sizes on our walls, yet most clients asking about bump to baby packages want images on a disc. I feel very sad that people would rather have this so they can put pictures up on social networking sites, then maybe go to their local supermarket for prints and complain the quality is not great. The print quality has nothing to do with me, it's the method in which you are printing. I use the best lab in the country for my prints and wall display products so you can expect a very high standard when ordering from me.

I will be happy to point anyone in the direction of someone that does do these kind of shoots, just ask.
